The Three Labs at Brick

Where ideas are tested, explored, and transformed into real-world impact.

Architecture education at Brick is organised around three interlinked labs, each offering a distinct lens of learning: Design, Construction, and Thinking. Together, they nurture holistic architects who can ideate, innovate, and implement.

Application and Creation–Based Learning

focus :

Exploring design thinking, innovation, and hands-on creativity through experimentation and craft.

At Brick, the Design Lab is the intellectual and pedagogical core of architectural education. It is where design is explored as a process of inquiry, encompassing conceptualisation, development, and detailing, while responding to contemporary realities and future challenges.

Design Lab follows a holistic and integrated approach, bringing together learning from across the curriculum within the design studio. While the university syllabus separates subjects into individual courses, Brick unifies them through the Design Lab, enabling students to synthesise inputs from humanities, science, engineering, art, psychology, and technology into coherent design applications.

Design learning at Brick is structured as a continuous journey from the first to the final year. Each stage builds greater complexity, critical thinking, and contextual responsibility. Architecture is approached not as a linear progression of scale, but as an interconnected process shaped by social, cultural, environmental, technological, and economic forces.

Through mentorship, experimentation, and self-driven learning, the Design Lab nurtures independent thinking and critical inquiry. Aligned with Brick’s vision of socially responsible architectural practice, it reinforces the role of design as a tool for positive societal impact.
